HYMN XIV.

Evening.

WOULD SEEK unto God, and unto God would I commit my Caufe; which doeth great Things and unfearchable; marvelous Things without Number. (Job v. 8.)

2. Who giveth Rain upon the Earth, and fendeth Waters upon the Fields:

3. To fet up on high thofe that be low; that those which mourn may be exalted to Safety.

4. He difappointeth the Devices of the Crafty, fo that their Hands cannot perform their Enterprize.

5. He taketh the Wife in their own Craftinefs; and the Counsel of the froward is carried headlong: they meet with Darkness in the Day-time, and grope in the Noonday as in the Night.

6. But He faveth the Poor from the Sword, from their Mouth, and from the Hand of the Mighty; fo the poor hath Hope, and Iniquity foon ftoppeth her Mouth.

7. Behold, happy is the Man whom God correcteth : therefore defpife not thou the Chaft'ning of the Almighty. 8. For He maketh fore, and bindeth up; He woundeth, and his Hands make whole.

9. He fhall deliver thee in fix Troubles; yea, in feven, there fhall no Evil befall thee.

10. In Famine, He fhall redeem thee from Death; and in War, from the Power of the Sword.

11. Thou shalt be hid from the Scourge of the Tongue; neither shalt thou be afraid of Deftruction when it cometh. 12. At Destruction and Famine thou shalt laugh; neither fhalt thou be afraid of the Beasts of the Field.

13. For thou shalt be in league with the Stones of the Field, and the Beasts of the Field fhall be at Peace with thee.

14. And

14. And thou fhalt know that thy Tabernacle fhall be in Peace; and thou shalt vifit thy Habitation, and fhalt not fin.

15. Thou shalt know alfo that thy Seed fhall be great, and thine Offspring as the Grafs of the Earth: thou fhalt come to thy Grave in a full Age, like as a Shock of Corn cometh in, in his Seafon.

16. Lo this, We have fearched it, fo it is; hear it, and know thou it for thy good.

17. CANST THOU by fearching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto Perfection? It is high as Heaven, what canft thou do? deeper than Hell, what canft thou know? (Job xi. 7.)

18. The Measure thereof is longer than the Earth, and broader than the Sea. If He cut off, and fhut up, or gather together, then who can hinder Him?

19. For He knoweth vain Men; He feeth Wickedness alfo; will He not then confider it?

20. For vain Man would be wife, though Man be born like a wild Affes-Colt.

21. If thou prepare thine Heart, and ftretch out thine Hands towards Him; if Iniquity be in thine Hand, put it, far away, and let not Wickednefs dwell in thy Tabernacles.

22. For then shalt thou lift up thy Face without Spot;, yea, thou shalt be fledfaft, and fhalt not fear.

23. Because thou shalt forget thy Misery, and remember it as Waters that pass away.

24. And thine Age fhall be clearer than the Noon-day; thou fhalt fhine forth, thou shalt be as the Morning.

25. And thou fhalt be fecure, because there is Hope; yea, thou fhalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy Reft in Safety: alfo thou fhalt lie down, and None shall make thee afraid; yea, many fhall make fuit unto thee.

26. But the Eyes of the Wicked fhall fail, and they fhall not escape, and their Hope fhall be as the giving up of the Ghoft.

27. BEHOLD, GOD is mighty, and defpifeth not any; He is mighty in Strength and Wisdom: He preferveth not the Life of the wicked; but giveth Right to the poor. (Fob xxxvi. 5.)

28. He

28. He withdraweth not his Eyes from the Righteous; but with Kings are they on the Throne, yea, He doth stablish them for ever, and they are exalted.

29. And if they be bound in Fetters, and be holden in Cords of Affliction; then He fheweth them their Work, and their Tranfgreffions that they have exceeded.

30. He openeth alfo their Ear to Difcipline, and commandeth that they return from Iniquity.

31. If they obey and ferve Him, they fhall fpend their Days in Profperity, and their Years in Pleasures.

32. But if they obey not, they fhall perish by the Sword, and they fhall die without Knowledge.

33. But the Hypocrites in Heart heap up Wrath; they cry not, when He bindeth them.

34. They die in Youth, and their Life is among the unclean..

35. He delivereth the poor in his Affliction, and openeth their Ears in Oppreffion.

36. Behold, God exalteth by his Power: who teacheth like Him?

37. Now TO HIM, who is the bleffed and only Potentate, the King of Kings, and Lord of Lords; who only hath Immortality, dwelling in the Light, which no Man can approach unto, whom no Man hath feen, nor can see: (1 Timot. vi. 15.)

38. To whom be Honor and Power everlafting. Amen.

HYMN XV.

Morning.

EHOLD, GOD exalteth by his Power, who teacheth like Him? who hath enjoined Him his Way? or who can say, Thou haft wrought Iniquity? (Job xxxvi. 22.)

2. Remember that thou magnifie his Work, which Men behold: every Man may fee it, Man may behold it afar off.

3. Behold, God is great, and we know him not; neither can the Number of his Years be fearched out.

4. For He maketh fmall the Drops of Water; they pour down Rain, according to the Vapor thereof; which the Clouds do drop, and diftill upon Man abundantly.

5. Alfo can Any understand the Spreadings of the Clouds, or the Noife of his Tabernacle? Behold, He fpreadeth his Light upon it, and covereth the Bottom of the Sea.

6. For by them judgeth He the People; He giveth Meat in Abundance.

7. With Clouds He covereth the Light, and commandeth it not to shine, by the Cloud that cometh betwixt.

8. The Noife thereof fheweth concerning it, the Cattle alfo concerning the Vapor.

9. HEAR attentively the Noife of his Voice, and the Sound that goeth out of his Mouth. (ib. xxxvii. 2.)

10. He directeth it under the whole Heaven, and his Lightening unto the Ends of the Earth.

II. After it a Voice roareth; He thundereth with the Voice of his Excellency, and He will not ftay them when his Voice is heard.

12. God thundereth marvelously with his Voice; great Things doeth He, which We cannot comprehend.

13. For He faith to the Snow, be thou on the Earth; likewife to the fmall Rain, and to the great Rain of his Strength.

14. He fealeth up the Hand of every Man, that all Men may know his Work.

15. Then the Beafts go into Dens, and remain in their Places.

16. Out of the South cometh the Whirlwind, and Cold out of the North.

17. By the Breath of God, Froft is given; and the Breadth of the Waters is ftrait'ned.

18. Alfo by watering He wearieth the thick Cloud; He fcattereth his bright Cloud.

19. And it is turned round about by his Counfels, that they may do whatfoever He commandeth them upon the Face of the World in the Earth.

20. He caufith it to come, whether for Correction, or for his Land, or for Mercy.

21. Hearken unto this diligently, O ye People; ftand ftill, and confider the wond'rous Works of God,

XV

22. Doft thou know when God difpofed them, and caufed the Light of his Cloud to Shine?

23. Doft Thou know the Balancings of the Clouds, the wond'rous Works of Him which is perfect in Knowledge? How thy Garments are warm, when He quieteth the Earth by the South Wind? Haft thou with Him spread out the Sky, which is ftrong, and as a molten looking-Glafs?

24. Teach Us what We shall fay unto Him; for We cannot order our Speech by reason of Darkness. With God is terrible Majefty.

25. Touching the Almighty, We cannot find him out; He is excellent in Power, and in Judgement, and in Plenty of Juftice; He will not afflict.

26. Men do therefore fear him: He respecteth not any that are wife of Heart.

27. THY MERCY, O Lord, is in the Heavens; and thy Faithfulness reacheth unto the Clouds: thy Righteoufnefs ftandeth like the ftrong Mountains; thy Judgements are like the great Deep. (PJ. xxxvi.)

28. Thou, Lord, faveft both Man and Beaft: how excellent is thy loving-Kindness, O God! and therefore the Children of Men fhall put their Truft under the Shadow of thy Wings.

29. They fhall be abundantly fatisfied with the Plenteoufnefs of thy Houfe; and Thou fhalt give them to drink of thy Pleasures, as out of a River.

30. For with Thee is the Fountain of Life; and in thy Light fhall We fee Light.

31. O continue forth thy loving-Kindness unto them that know Thee; and thy Righteoufnefs unto them that are upright of Heart.

32. WE GIVE THEE Thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come: because Thou haft taken unto Thee thy great Power, and haft reigned. (Rev. xi. 17.)

33. UNTO HIM that loved us, and washed us from our Sins in his own Blood; and hath made us Kings and Priefts unto God and his Father; to Him be Glory and Dominion for ever and ever. (ib. i. 4.)

34. Amen.
