HE following Selection from the Early Ballad Poetry of Great Britain has been made in the hope of diffusing a more general acquaintance with the National Poetry of our country. The works of Bishop Percy, Sir Walter Scott, Jamieson, Motherwell, Cromek, Buchan, and Kinloch are the sources from whence the Ballads have been selected; and care has been taken, by the omission of all objectionable passages, to prevent the liability of the volume to charges which may be brought against more extended collections.

JUNE, 1842.
