The Treasurer reported that he had already received from the Executors of the Will of the late EZEKIEL PRICE Greenleaf securities valued at $500,000 to be held in accordance with the provisions of Mr. GREENLEAF's Will and Codicils, as special investments for the " Price Greenleaf Fund." Voted, to establish ten "Price Greenleaf Scholarships" of $300 each. MEETING OF MAY 7, 1887. - The President and Regents, and the Senate of the University of Michigan, having invited Harvard University to be present by a delegate at the fiftieth anniversary of its foundation, it was Voted, that the invitation be cordially accepted and that Professor GEORGE LINCOLN GOODALE be requested to serve as the delegate of the University for the occasion. Voted, to appoint Professor ARTHUR T. HADLEY Lecturer on Problems of Railroad Administration for the year 1886-87. Voted, to appoint CHARLES JOYCE WHITE, A.M., Acting Dean of the College Faculty during the absence of the Dean. Notice having been received from the Secretary of the Faculty of the Museum of Comparative Zoology that HENRY PICKERING BOWDITCH, A.M., M.D., was nominated as a member of that Faculty to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Hon. THEODORE LYMAN, it was Voted, that the same be confirmed and notice thereof be transmitted to the Faculty of the Museum by the Secretary of this Board. Voted, that the sum of $178 received through Professor BôCHER for the purchase of books for the library of the French Department be gratefully accepted, said sum being the net proceeds of the French Readings recently given in Sever Hall by Professors BôCHER and COHN. A report was received from Mr. WINSOR, with a copy of the volume containing a full account of the Proceedings at the 250th Anniversary of the Founding of Harvard College; and it was thereupon Voted, that the thanks of the President and Fellows be given to JUSTIN WINSOR, the Librarian of the University, for the highly satisfactory manner in which he has edited the Record of the Commemoration. Voted, that Mr. BRIMMER be authorized, in the absence of the President of the University, to sign the diplomas for degrees to be given at the next Commencement. Meeting of JUNE 27, 1887.- Professor GOODALE reported that the Botanical Department has received from FRANCIS BROOKS, Esq., as Administrator, the botanical collections and library of the late WILLIAM BOOTT of Boston, and it was thereupon Voted, that the same be gratefully accepted, and that the thanks of the President and Fellows be sent to Mr. BROOKS for the kind manner in which he has carried out the wishes of Mr. Booтr by delivery of his collections and library to Professor GOODALE. Voted, that the gift of $100 from the Dante Society of Cambridge, being the Society's annual appropriation for the purchase of works relating to Dante, be gratefully accepted, and that the Treasurer be requested to make suitable acknowledgment therefor. The Treasurer reported the following gift: "In memory of GLEndower Evans, of the Class of 1879, $1000 for a working library of books on American history and politics." An offer was received from JoHN O. SARGENT, Esq., to give $100 for certain prizes for the current year, and the same was gratefully accepted. At the request of Mr. SARGENT the $100 of prize money given by him last year, and not used, is to be retained as the nucleus of a permanent fund for similar uses. |
