Opportunity is here taken of drawing the attention of booksellers to the fact that the following books-THE PRIEST AND THE ACOLYTE,

THE SATYRICON OF PETRONIUS (a translation from the Latin),
WHAT NEVER DIES (a translation from the French),

(even when bearing his name on the title-page) were neither written, translated, nor edited by the late Mr. OSCAR WILDE, and booksellers are earnestly requested to refrain from advertising or selling them as such. Any one with a slender knowledge of the French, Latin or English languages will be able to realise for himself that the Author of SALOME, who was a Demy (scholar) of Magdalen College, Oxford, and Greek Gold Medallist at Dublin, was incapable, even in his declining years, of the grammatical and grosser solecisms characterising these publications.

NOTES FROM SOTHEBY'S

COMPILED BY

FRANK KARSLAKE

8vo. Green art-linen, top edges gilt, price £1 1s. Od.

The immense mass of matter which this volume will contain' dealing with almost every conceivable subject, will practically constitute a romance of bibliography. In the course of some criticisms upon the methods of cataloguing, published in Volume 3 of B.A.R., there appeared the following paragraph :—

[ocr errors]

... In some respects the work of the compilers of auction-catalogues is admirable. I mean in the matter of notes, the patience, industry, and research in the compilation of which are of invaluable service to the bibliographer, the bibliophile, and the bookseller."

It can only be repeated that the statement is fully justified by the result of selection, and that the volume should be in the hands of every person interested in literature. The volume will go to press at the

earliest possible opportunity.
