The Legacy of the Greek Language

George KANARAKIS is Professor (Adjunct) at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Charles Sturt University, Australia. He received an MA in Applied Linguistics from Indiana University as a Fulbright scholar and a doctorate in Contrastive Linguistics, University of Athens. Coordinator of the English Department, University of Athens (1966-1976), he has taught at tertiary institutions in Greece, the USA and Australia. He has edited collective works and contributed chapters to books and articles to international journals. Ηis books include Greek Voices in Australia: A Tradition of Prose, Poetry and Drama (19912), endorsed by the Australian Bicentennial Authority (1988), In the Wake of Odysseus: Portraits of Greek Settlers in Australia (1997), The Greek Press in the Antipodes (2000), Interlanguage Influences on English and the Contribution of the Greek Language (20082) and The Diachronic Contribution of Greek to Other Languages (editor, 20152) [the last three in Greek].
